About the role

Our centrally based College is seeking a creative, organised, and enthusiastic Communications Officer to join our Communications team. Working closely with the Communications Manager, you will play a key role in promoting the College's reputation as a vibrant and inclusive academic community, engaging with prospective students, current members, alumni, Fellows, staff, and external audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for a communications professional who enjoys creating compelling content across multiple channels, from websites and social media to newsletters, magazines, and video content.

Key Responsibilities

Communications and Content Creation

  • Assist with the distribution of College news stories and press releases.
  • Create engaging written and visual content for digital and print channels, including newsletters, website pages, magazines, and advertisements.
  • Contribute to the College communications content calendar.
  • Ensure all communications consistently reflect the College's brand guidelines.
  • Manage workload effectively and prioritise tasks to meet deadlines.

Website Management

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date content across the College website.
  • Write and publish regular news articles and event updates.
  • Source, edit, and optimise images for website use.
  • Train staff on website content management and provide support with permissions and webform submissions.

Social Media

  • Manage the College's social media channels and online communities.
  • Create, schedule, and publish engaging social media content.
  • Respond to interactions and moderate audience-generated content in line with College guidelines.
  • Monitor and analyse performance metrics to increase engagement and reach.
  • Support communications campaigns across College departments.

Print Publications

  • Research, source, and create content for the College's publications, including the College Record and Plans & Prospects magazines.

Email Communications

  • Compile and distribute weekly newsletters.
  • Act as a point of contact for communication-related enquiries and feedback.
  • Manage mailing lists, templates, and databases using email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection legislation and communication regulations.

Video Production

  • Produce basic video content, including filming, editing, and publishing videos across digital channels.
  • Work with Fellows, staff, and students to coordinate participation in video projects.

About You

You will be a confident communicator with strong digital skills and a passion for creating engaging content. You will have experience working across multiple communications channels and be comfortable managing competing priorities in a busy environment.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience managing websites, social media platforms, and databases.
  • Strong written communication and content creation experience
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Understanding of communications best practice and relevant legislation, including GDPR, PECR, and general media regulations.
  • Experience recording and editing video content.
