We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Research Grants Officer to support the effective financial and operational management of research grants. This role works closely with Principal Investigators, Research Accounts, and external partners to ensure awards are set up, monitored, and reported in line with funder and University requirements.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay
Key Duties:
- Review award letters against applications, identify variances, and confirm project viability with PIs and management
- Submit start certificates, activate grants on time, or coordinate start-date deferrals where required
- Set up new projects and costings in X5 and support project creation in Oracle R12
- Coordinate collaboration agreements and project paperwork with partners
- Carry out due diligence checks, including ethics and conflict of interest requirements
- Brief PIs and project staff on award conditions, reporting, record-keeping, and financial responsibilities
- Provide monthly project status and activity reports to PIs
- Monitor grant spend, analyse variances, and take appropriate follow-up action
- Ensure compliance with funder requirements for timesheets, expenditure, and documentation
- Liaise on recruitment funding, re-cost salaries, and monitor collaborator and consultant payments
- Work with Research Accounts to prepare financial statements, reports, journals, and audits
- Support preparation of technical and final reports and manage grant extensions or changes

- Strong numeracy skills with excellent accuracy and attention to detail
- Good understanding of grant management principles and funder requirements
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to work confidently with academics and funders
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage deadlines and competing priorities
- Proven ability to analyse financial data and resolve issues proactively
- Strong IT skills, particularly Excel (including analysis tools), and confidence using online collaboration tools
