About the role

We are seeking a Research Assistant with strong quantitative and analytical skills to support policy-focused economic research exploring the links between health, ageing, labour market participation, and wider economic outcomes. You will need experience in applied microeconomics, proficiency in statistical software such as Stata, R or Python, and the ability to work independently with large datasets to deliver high-quality, policy-relevant analysis.

Duties

Conduct literature reviews in labour, health, and public economics
Compile and manage data from sources such as ONS, UKHLS (Understanding Society), NHS England, and HMRC
Undertake empirical analysis using microdata (e.g. UKHLS, LFS), including descriptive and regression-based work
Contribute to scenario-based modelling, including changes in labour supply and employment at older ages, reductions in health and care crises and estimation of fiscal impacts and public expenditure effects
Support the translation of micro-level findings into aggregate (macro) outcomes, including GDP and public finance implications
Contribute to the estimation or interpretation of local multiplier and spillover effects associated with increased labour participation and consumption among older adults
Prepare tables, figures, and summaries for reports and policy outputs

Selection criteria:


Postgraduate student (Master’s or PhD) in Economics or a closely related field
Strong background in applied microeconomics (labour, health, or public economics preferred)
Familiarity with concepts such as general equilibrium effects, spillovers, or local multipliers
Proficiency in statistical software (e.g. Stata, R, or Python)
Experience working with large datasets; familiarity with UK data sources (e.g. UKHLS, ONS) 
Interest in policy-relevant research linking micro behaviour to macroeconomic outcomes
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
