Finance Officer
About the role
For this role, you will need to have significant experience in a finance role, experience using financial ledger systems and excel knowledge. In this role, you will process purchase orders, invoices, expense claims and more. You will also maintain financial records and prepare reports.
Duties:
•
Process purchase orders, invoices, expense claims, payroll forms, and sales invoices, ensuring accuracy, correct coding, compliance, and timely submission in line with University procedures.
•
Ensure adherence to financial regulations and policies, communicate key compliance messages, and maintain strong internal financial controls across all activities.
•
Assist with preparation of monthly financial reports, dashboards, year-end processes, budgeting, forecasting, and monitoring of departmental funds and allowances.
•
Maintain accurate departmental financial records, including research and staff allowances, credit card uses, and trust fund balances, ensuring appropriate supporting documentation.
•
Support the Finance Manager and supervise the Finance Apprentice, providing training, task guidance, and feedback. Monitor the team inbox and provide general cover when needed.
•
Act as a point of contact for internal departments, central finance offices, and external stakeholders such as funders, addressing financial queries and ensuring effective communication.
Selection criteria:
•
Significant experience in a finance role.
•
Educated at least to GCSE standard or equivalent.
•
Excel knowledge, and the willingness and aptitude to further develop skills in this area.
•
Experience of using financial ledger systems.
•
The ability to work effectively both independently and in a team.
•
Good organisation skills, able to work to deadlines.
•
Good problem-solving skills.
