We are currently seeking a proactive and skilled Deputy Finance Manager to join a centrally located department at the University of Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills to step into a key position supporting one of the world’s most prestigious academic institutions

Key Responsibilities

Deputising & Strategic Support

  • Act as deputy to the Finance Manager, attending key meetings and contributing to strategic planning.
  • Lead and manage budgeting, forecasting, and assurance processes across a range of Faculty cost centres.

Financial Planning & Reporting

  • Take ownership of budgeting and forecasting for discrete Faculty programmes and centres.
  • Collaborate with academic budget-holders to monitor performance, advise on variances, and promote financial accountability.
  • Produce insightful management accounting reports and costings for events and development bids.

Financial Assurance & Control

  • Advise on financial procedures and provide training and support to non-financial staff.
  • Maintain access controls and system authorisations across Oracle, E-Expenses, and other platforms.

Accounting & Transactions

  • Lead month-end and quarter-end accounting routines including journals, reconciliations, and reporting.
  • Monitor general ledger accuracy, deferred donations, and restricted funds usage.
  • Authorise financial transactions, payroll submissions, and support donor finance processes.

We are looking for a qualified or nearly qualified finance professional with a track record of delivering in complex and dynamic environments.

Essential:

  • Degree-level education and CCAB accounting qualification (or near completion).
  • Demonstrated experience in management accounting, budgeting, and financial planning.
  • Excellent Excel and financial system skills; strong attention to detail with large data sets.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills; able to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Clear communicator, able to simplify complex financial information for diverse audiences.
