We are currently recruiting for a Temporary Applications &IT Officer to join a department within Oxford University. This position offers an exciting opportunity to support a busy IT team with general IT support duties as well as with helping provide A/V support.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £16.57 per hour + holiday pay
Duties:
- Provide IT support for our undergraduate teaching function, including:
- Support for lab and IT practical classes, maintaining the computers used
- Maintenance of the attendance programme
- A/V support in the teaching lab and IT suite
- Support for e-exams
- Support for IT use on field courses
- Support for lecture recording, the Virtual Learning Environment and online teaching (Zoom/Teams)
- Cover for the Applications & Teaching IT Manager when required (referring complex duties to the IT Manager as appropriate)
- Confidently advise staff and students, using appropriate methods of communication tailored to the audience answering straightforward questions or IT solutions, interpreting guidance to answer more complex questions, or redirecting as appropriate
- Provide first line support for the Department including working with IT hardware, software, telephone, Audio-Visual support, computer and printer management and user accounts. Responding promptly to tickets as they come in and ensuring excellent customer service provision.
- Implement University IT policies and procedures, providing data by running ad hoc reports from appropriate IT systems (e.g. ticketing system)
- Prepare standard purchase requisitions for new equipment, most typically PCs, laptops, Macs and IT accessories
- Planning and carrying out IT inductions for new staff
- Assist with the provision of IT support related to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
- Assist in the timely creation and maintenance of quality documentation for both users and IT colleagues, helping users make the most of IT services
- Flexibility will be as required to undertake the role, including the scheduling and attendance of works outside normal working hours.
Criteria:
- Strong customer service focus and flexible ‘can do’ attitude
- Educated to A level standard with GCSE (grade A-C) level English and Maths, or equivalent
- Experience of working in an IT team / IT role
- Awareness of data protection and information security guidelines
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate technical information to non-technical customers
- Demonstrable ability to prioritise workload and produce accurate, detailed work within deadlines
- Experience of providing a high level of customer service with accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to undertake professional development and training
