About the role

For this assignment, you must have professional experience managing engagement programmes or membership communities, with a strong understanding of relationship-based fundraising. You must also have excellent communication and IT skills, experience delivering high-quality events and marketing projects, and the ability to use data and best practice to support donor stewardship and organisational goals.

An Oxford University college is seeking a highly organised and experienced professional to lead its alumni engagement and events programme. This role involves developing innovative engagement strategies, managing high-profile events, and building strong relationships with alumni and donors to support the College’s fundraising and wider objectives. The ideal candidate will combine strategic thinking, creativity, and excellent communication skills to deliver a world-class supporter experience

Duties:

Develop and deliver an innovative alumni engagement strategy that supports fundraising goals and the College’s wider objectives, using a mix of events, communications, social media, and alumni benefits.
Strategically plan, deliver, and manage in-person and online events for alumni and supporters, including donor stewardship, networking, and major donor-focused events.
Ensure the smooth running of all events, providing operational support, coordinating staff, contractors, and volunteers, and overseeing attendee experience.
Volunteer & Regional Engagement – Foster regional and industry alumni networks, develop volunteer-led initiatives, and support College visits and campaigns in collaboration with alumni volunteers.
Personally manage a portfolio of donors, focusing on expansion and retention of key supporter groups, in coordination with the Development Team.
Donor Stewardship & Cultivation – Strategically plan and deliver an annual programme of stewardship and cultivation events, ensuring high-quality engagement and recognition of donors.
Line manage and support the Events Officer, including oversight of communications, inbox management, and workload prioritisation.
Track engagement success, evaluate and improve programmes, and administer budgets with cost-effectiveness and value in mind.

Selection criteria

Educated to degree level or equivalent
Professional experience in managing highly effective customer or supporter engagement programmes, or managing similar membership communities
Good understanding of the fundamentals of relationship-based fundraising 
The drive and creativity to use events skills to deliver an innovative engagement programme and demonstrable ability to manage events to a high professional standard
Outstanding communication skills, both verbal or written, with strong attention to detail and accuracy
Experience producing marketing or communication materials that are designed to influence
Experience of strategically creating and delivering projects that meet organisational goals
Proven IT skills, including the flexibility to learn new applications at speed 
A demonstrable understanding of the role of data in relationship management
Knowledge of stewardship best practices and experience of, or an interest in, developing in this area
