We are seeking a professional, calm and customer-focused Receptionist to act as the first point of contact for visitors and callers. This role plays a key part in maintaining a safe, welcoming and well-managed environment within the Department.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be providing cover on a shift basis (2 on 2 off):
4-9pm Mon-Thurs, 3-9pm Fri 8am-4pm Sat-Sun for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £13.67 per hour + holiday pay
Key Duties:
- Present a professional and customer-oriented image at all times
- Act as first point of contact for visitors, checking identification and directing authorised visitors
- Answer telephone calls and direct enquiries appropriately
- Respond calmly and professionally to emergency situations, escalating to relevant staff or emergency services
- Maintain logs of activity and incidents for review
- Work a rota including evenings and weekends, providing cover when required
- Monitor and operate alarm, CCTV, fire and intruder systems
- Patrol the building to monitor security and unauthorised access
- Carry out end-of-shift lock-up procedures to ensure the building is secure
- Communicate regularly with University Security Services as required
- Comply with health and safety legislation and University policies at all times
Selection Criteria:
- Experience in a customer service or customer-facing role
- Reliable with strong timekeeping skills
- Flexible approach to shift work, including covering absences
- Clear and confident communication skills, in person and on the phone
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and manage unexpected situations professionally
