About the role

We are seeking a professional and reliable Deputy Lodge Manager to support the day-to-day operation, security and customer service of the College Lodge. This role combines front-of-house duties, staff supervision, health and safety responsibilities, and deputising for the Lodge Manager to help maintain a safe, welcoming and well-organised environment.

The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time (40 hours per week including weekends and bank holidays) for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £16.92 per hour + holiday pay

Key Duties:

  • Act as Lodge receptionist, presenting a professional and welcoming service to all visitors
  • Handle main switchboard calls and coordinate on-site parking for guests and Fellows
  • Supervise Lodge logistics, including parcels, post, cleanliness and organisation
  • Monitor Lodge inboxes and manage student check-ins and check-outs
  • Act as an information point, communicating relevant updates across College departments
  • Maintain and update Salto lock access systems
  • Deputise for the Lodge Manager as required, attending meetings and supporting operational decision-making
  • Assist with staff supervision, rota planning, casual staff management and porter recruitment interviews
  • Support stock management, including monthly merchandise stock takes
  • Act as first responder to fire and intruder alarms and oversee daily security patrols
  • Monitor CCTV, maintain incident logs and ensure accurate reporting
  • Issue keys and fobs in line with procedures and complete termly key stock checks
  • Support student discipline and welfare in collaboration with Junior Deans
  • Supervise fire safety procedures, drills, alarm testing and first aid kit audits
  • Support out-of-hours maintenance assessments and liaise with Works teams
  • Assist with staff inductions and monitor Night Porter checks
  • Ensure contractors comply with site safety requirements

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in a front-of-house, reception or customer-facing role
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to handle challenging situations sensitively
  • Ability to build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • Disciplined and professional approach, with sound judgement
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience developing or following procedures
  • Good standard of education (A-level, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent)
  • Strong administrative and IT skills, including MS Office and digital calendars
  • Understanding of data protection and GDPR requirements
