We are seeking a proactive and reliable Senior Facilities Support Assistant to play a key role in the smooth day-to-day operation of the building. This is a highly visible, front-line position that supports students, staff, and visitors, while also supervising facilities support assistants and coordinating essential services across the site.
You will be responsible for ensuring that common core services are delivered efficiently and professionally, supporting events and lectures, overseeing safety and security procedures, and contributing to the overall high standard of the University’s facilities.
This role requires a smart, approachable individual with excellent communication skills, strong organisational ability, and a flexible, hands-on approach. The post involves some manual handling; full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
Supervisory Duties

Plan, prioritise, delegate, and supervise regular and reactive tasks for Facilities Support Assistants (FSAs)

Supervise contract cleaning staff when required
-
Liaise with external contractors and monitor their compliance with health and safety procedures
-
Monitor stock levels of consumable goods and arrange reordering
-
Plan and assist with office furniture moves
-
Maintain high standards of health and safety in line with HASAW Act 1974, COSHH, and Manual Handling Regulations
-
Monitor email requests, incident logs, and work requests via Fresh Service and Planon
-
Proactively review routines and suggest improvements to service delivery
Lectures and Events
-
Supervise the preparation and setup of lecture rooms, event spaces, and conference facilities

Coordinate operational arrangements for events, including:
-
Liaison with customers and the Event Management team
-
Room layouts and furniture provision (including stage installation)
-
Equipment, supplies, and hospitality provision
-
On occasion, assist with AV setup and basic troubleshooting
Maintenance

Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe environment throughout the building and surrounding external areas
-
Complete daily duties in line with the rota and pre-plan required works
-
Carry out minor repairs within competency level
-
Report faults through Fresh Service or the University Help Desk

Monitor and undertake user-based maintenance on bespoke plant equipment
Electrical
Security, Safety, and Emergency Response
-
Assist with maintaining building security and safety
-
Act as Fire Marshal or Fire Incident Controller during emergencies
-
Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of fire systems and evacuation procedures
-
Conduct fire panel and fire curtain testing
-
Undertake locking and unlocking duties on a rota basis

Carry out reception duties when required
-
Use a personal radio effectively
-
Complete First Aid at Work training and act as a site first aider
-
Provide emergency out-of-hours cover as required
General Duties
-
Carry out cleaning tasks across all internal and external areas

Receive and despatch post and goods
-
Deliver hospitality services to lecture and event spaces
-
Provide sickness and holiday cover when required
-
Attend University training courses as necessary
-
Work outside standard hours, including unsociable hours, as required (overtime by agreement)

Undertake other comparable duties appropriate to the grade

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong combination of interpersonal, organisational, and practical skills, including:

Fire Marshal training and experience supporting fire evacuations

First Aid at Work qualification

Acceptable IT skills (email and internet use) with the ability to learn bespoke building control systems
