About the role

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Store Technician to support the efficient operation of the department’s stores by managing deliveries, stock control, materials dispatch, equipment testing, and accurate record-keeping while ensuring safe handling of goods and maintaining high standards of organisation and service.

The position is set to commence asap and will be full-time (36.5 hours per week) for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £14.98 per hour + holiday pay).

Key Tasks

Reporting to the Store Manager you will be responsible for:-

  • Stores receipt procedures for both internal and external deliveries.
  • Stores accounting and charging.
  • Stores issue and dispatch.
  • Portable Appliance Testing for goods that are received in Stores.
  • Other duties that are commensurate with the post.

 

Stores Receipts

  • Dealing with deliveries in a safe and consistent manner, ensuring appropriate storage.
  • Maintenance of daily receipt register; entering all receipts and equipment details into University of Oxford Financials Accounting System (Oracle)
  • Recording all relevant details of major equipment received for the purpose of the Asset Register (Asset 4000).
  • Clearing goods to the originator of the order.
  • Progressing part receipts and discrepancies to eventual satisfaction of the order.
  • Maintaining a record of all items returned to suppliers; and monitoring subsequent activity for substitute/replacement items.

 

Stores accounting and charging

  • The costing and recording of all materials issued against appropriate grant, cost code, job or project number.
  • Recording of all loaned items and the subsequent inspection for condition on their return.
  • Ensuring that stock levels are adequate, reporting any shortfall to the Head Storeman.
  • Maintaining a record of all stores items transferred from bulk storage to the point of issue.
  • Carrying out stock checks as required by the Store Manager.

 

Stores issue and dispatch

  • Arranging and packing goods for global dispatch. Keeping records of dispatched items.
  • Tracking dispatched goods as required.
  • Issuing tools, materials and consumables and completing relevant issue paper work
  • Cutting of stock and other materials using hand tools and power saws.
  • Advising customers on choice of materials, including advice to 4th year project students.

 

Portable Appliance Testing

  • Carrying out PAT of new electrical equipment that is receipted in Stores.
  • Update the Asset register of PAT checked equipment.
  • Liaise with the Electronics team regarding PAT testing.

Other duties

  • Covering work of other Stores staff during periods of leave or sickness.
  • Using the overhead crane to handle heavy equipment and the forklift in-line with guidelines.
  • Maintaining store tidiness and working in a manner consistent with health and safety procedures.
  • Undertake deliveries using the Department’s vehicle, of materials and equipment to the Department’s other sites.
  • Take part in the Department’s PDR process.

Selection Criteria:

  • A clean UK driving license.
  • Previous experience in store keeping.
  • A valid forklift truck licence.
  • Educated to GCSE standard (English and Maths grade C) or equivalent
  • Good I.T. skills, with ability to learn new packages.
  • Perseverance and initiative in solving problems (such as tracking down lost items, identifying orders which are missing details).
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Aptitude and ability for manual tasks, such as heavy lifting and using power tools to cut stock.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of the team, and more widely with departmental staff who use the services of the Stores services.
