About the role

We are seeking a highly organised and proactive Senior Lab Technician to assist with the day-to-day operation of a shared cleanroom and microfabrication laboratory. This is a hands-on support role focused on ensuring the facility operates safely, efficiently, and in line with established procedures.

You will act as a key point of contact for users, supporting routine operations, maintaining accurate records, and helping to uphold high standards of safety and housekeeping. While you won’t be expected to be a technical expert in all equipment, you will play an essential role in keeping the facility running smoothly and escalating issues when needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the daily running of the cleanroom, including routine checks, housekeeping, and monitoring of service areas
  • Promote and maintain safe working practices, including PPE use, chemical handling, and adherence to laboratory safety standards
  • Act as a first point of contact for researchers and facility users, responding to routine queries and escalating complex issues
  • Assist with hazardous waste and gas cylinder management, including storage, labelling, and arranging collection or replacement
  • Deliver local inductions using approved materials and maintain accurate training and access records
  • Maintain and update documentation, including SOPs, risk assessments, and local rules, ensuring review dates are tracked
  • Manage stock control by ordering and replenishing consumables, PPE, and laboratory supplies
  • Coordinate with facilities teams, contractors, and service engineers for maintenance and servicing activities
  • Carry out basic equipment checks and routine maintenance tasks where trained and authorised
  • Maintain accurate records, including equipment logs, maintenance schedules, and user documentation

About You

You will be a detail-oriented and reliable individual with a strong understanding of laboratory environments and safety practices. You’ll be comfortable working within defined procedures, managing multiple tasks, and communicating effectively with a range of stakeholders.

Essential Criteria:

  • A BSc (or equivalent experience) in materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience working in a laboratory, cleanroom, or technical/research facility
  • Good understanding of laboratory safety principles and procedures
