About the role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Finance Officer to support the smooth running of the College’s finance operations by managing student billing (battels), daily banking, and purchase and sales ledger activities, ensuring accurate processing, timely collections, and effective financial controls across all transactions.

The position is set to commence asap and will be part-time (22.5 hours per week) for 8-12 weeks (with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay).

Main Duties

Student Sales Ledger (Battels)

• Raise student battels invoices and update the battels accounts (rent, lunches and dinners) liaising with the Accommodation and Pantry teams when required.

• Ensure that monies due on the student battels accounts are collected promptly, resolving queries and chasing payments.

• Process credit card and cheque payments recording receipts.

• Regularly reconcile and review student battels accounts.

 

Banking Tasks

• Carry out daily banking activities 

• Identify and resolve discrepancies.

• Flag missing or unusual transactions.

 

Purchase Ledger Support

• Code invoices and enter onto the financial system, applying the correct VAT code are to all supplier invoices. 

• Distribute invoices to budget-holders for authorisation. 

• Administer and process College credit card transactions. 

• Reconcile supplier statements and resolve invoicing queries.

 

Sales Ledger Support

• Create customer account as requested

• Raise sales invoices with invoice request

• Reconcile and review sales ledger balances. 

• Credit control and resolution of invoice queries.

 

Other

• Any other tasks, duties and responsibilities not listed above which can reasonably be expected to be performed or undertaken by a Finance Officer.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • EAt least 3 years relevant accounting experience, working in an Accounts Office.
  • Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Working understanding of VAT.
  • IT literate with proficient excel skills.
  • Accurate, well-organised and clear-thinking with demonstrable attention to detail and to meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully as a member of a small team.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to deal confidently and appropriately with a wide variety of people.
  • Flexible in their approach to work, with a co-operative attitude and willingness to complete work as required and cover, as necessary, for others in the team.
