About the role

We are seeking a highly organised and confident Events & Communications Officer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with strong communication and coordination skills who enjoys managing events, supporting stakeholder engagement, and delivering effective administrative and communications support in a fast-paced environment.

The position is set to commence asap and will be from 22.5 to 36.5 hours per week (depending the availability of the post holder) for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay).

Main Duties

 

  • Support planning and delivery of a major symposium on 23–24 September 2026.
  • Coordinate event logistics including delegate communications, registrations, venue arrangements, travel and accommodation where required (Event Organisers are in place for the majority of the work)
  • Liaise with external event organisers, suppliers and University colleagues.
  • Act as a point of contact for delegates, collaborators and stakeholders as needed.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support for VIP visits and invited speakers.
  • Monitor shared inboxes and respond to routine enquiries during staff leave.
  • Support the Programme Manager with programme administration.
  • Assist the Communications Manager with communications activities
  • Respond professionally and sensitively to patient enquiries, escalating where appropriate.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide general administrative support.

 

Selection Criteria:

  • Good general education and enthusiasm for humanities research and/or the heritage sector.
  • A keen attention to detail; competence in proofing, formatting and accuracy of information in relation to both documents and office processes.
  • Experience of event planning and management, and a proven ability to work independently, to take initiative, to anticipate and plan, and to manage and prioritise own workload.
  • Strong organisational skills to meet multiple work deadlines simultaneously, while working in a busy office environment, for example to deliver event support, and to provide information for the team to meet deadlines.
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills that relate to working collaboratively with staff at all levels, and as part of a small team.
  • Excellent numerical/financial skills and the ability to manipulate and present data using spreadsheets.
  • Experience of creating online and print media, including newsletters, posters, flyers event listings and other publicity materials and of creating web content e.g. blogs, articles, social media etc.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work, exhibiting a desire to provide a good service and to work towards continuous improvements in systems and procedures
