We are seeking a proactive and organised Teaching Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys providing technical support for practical teaching, maintaining laboratory facilities and equipment, and ensuring teaching environments are safe, well-prepared, and effectively managed.
The position is set to commence asap and will be from 36.5 hours per week for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £14.98 per hour + holiday pay).
Main Duties
General:
- Comply with Health and Safety regulations and Standard Operating Procedures.
Teaching and Education:
- To provide technical support with undergraduate teaching sessions in Neuroanatomy, Histology and Physiology.
- To providing technical guidance to students during practical classes under direction of academic staff.
- To liaise with academic staff in charge of teaching and other users as to their requirements and use of the practical teaching classrooms.
- To assist with the preparation of class materials including solutions and equipment.
- To ensure there are adequate levels of consumables for users of the facility before, during and after teaching sessions.
Laboratory Support:
- To aid with the effective day-to day operation of the practical teaching classrooms.
- To clean, tidy, monitor and maintain equipment and facilities.
- To liaise with the Estates and Facilities Department to maintain and improve the facilities, including working with internal engineers and external contractors when required.
- To assist with the day-to-day care and servicing of equipment in the facilities such as scientific equipment, instruments and storage facilities, reporting any problems to the Senior Technician and the Technical Manager.
- To ensure that the facility is health and safety compliant.
Training and Support:
- You will be required to undertake fire marshal, risk assessment, COSHH, breathing apparatus, first aider, and manual handling training.
Selection Criteria:
- Experience of technical teaching support in a medical/scientific environment
- A mature, responsible and sensitive approach to the nature of the work involved
- The highest standards of conduct and behaviour, and the ability to set an example of respectful and appropriate behaviour to students
- BTEC or similar qualification in a technical discipline
- Demonstrable ability to maintain accurate and detailed records
- Good IT skills
- Good time management skills
- Evidence of adaptability, flexibility and an ability to respond to changing situations in a busy environment
- Commitment to engaging with, and being receptive to, equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace
