About the role

Our department is looking for a talented and enthusiastic Communications Officer to help us deliver our new communications strategy and connect our research, projects and activities with wider audiences.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who can take complex scientific and philosophical ideas and turn them into clear, engaging and accessible content. You will play a key role in developing content for the departments redesigned website and social media channels, helping to communicate our work to non-specialist audiences.

About the role

Working closely with colleagues and external partners, you will help shape and deliver our communications activity. You will work with our website developer and staff across the department to refine the structure and content of our new website, while developing engaging material for our digital and social media platforms.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working with the website developer and staff to refine the website structure and identify priority content for different areas of the website and social media channels.
  • Developing a strong understanding of the departments research, projects, publications and activities, and translating complex ideas into concise, accessible and engaging content.
  • Writing, editing and preparing content for the website and social media, ensuring it is accurate, clear and appropriate for different audiences.
  • Supporting the development of interactive website features, including polls, quizzes and online ethical decision aids.
  • Coordinating, reviewing and preparing content for publication, working collaboratively with colleagues to deliver agreed priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Contributing ideas and taking responsibility for progressing communications projects from planning through to publication.

You must have:

Experience of understanding scientific and philosophical concepts and texts.
Experience of writing concisely and accessibly, including when explaining complex ideas.
Experience of producing or editing content for websites and/or social media.
Experience of communicating research or other complex subject matter to non-specialist audiences.
