We are seeking a confident and proactive HR Advisor to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys advising managers and staff on a wide range of HR matters, supporting employee relations and recruitment processes, and contributing to effective, compliant and continuously improving HR practices.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be from 37.5 hours per week for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £18.80 per hour + holiday pay).
Main Duties:
- Confidently advise line managers and staff members, using appropriate methods of communication tailored to the audience, answering straightforward questions or researching employment law, interpreting procedures to answer more complex questions;
- Support managers in managing change and in handling individual employee cases, ensuring compliance with University policy, working with Estates Services HR Manager where necessary;
- Support managers with accessing varying recruitment options, including agency workers, and different types of internal University contracts;
- Monitor the sick leave absence records, annual leave records, end of probationary periods to advise managers as necessary and ensure that processes are in place for their correct storage and maintenance in conjunction with Senior HR Assistant and Apprentice;
- Work with the Senior HR Assistant and Apprentice to ensure recruitment records are maintained in accordance with legislation;
- Carry out induction sessions for new staff and deliver briefings on a range of HR topics within the department.
- Adopt a continuous improvement approach to internal HR processes and policies, suggesting updates and improvements to the Estates Services HR Manager;
- Support the Senior HR Assistant and Apprentice to prepare standard letters of appointment, contracts, and ensuring that relevant right to work documentation, Occupational Health and ID checks are completed;
- Maintain relevant spreadsheets and databases and provide report;
- Manage key HR processes including Flexible Working requests and regrades.
- Ensure case work developments that impact on pay are appropriately communicated to the staff member, management and payroll;
- Attend appropriate training on employment law, University HR policies and procedures, and their effective implementation at departmental level.
Selection Criteria
- Experience of working in an HR team/role and managing HR processes
- Qualified or working towards CIPD level 5, or have equivalent experience
- Sound knowledge and experience of the application of UK employment law and Home Office regulations for Visas
- Experience of operating HR information systems and producing management information reports
- Ability to clearly and accurately communicate processes and procedures verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal accurately and confidently with numbers
- Ability to develop professional and effective working relationships with key stakeholders
- Experience of providing a high level of customer service
- Willingness to undertake professional development and training
