About the role

We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Domestic Operations to lead and oversee the College’s domestic services, including catering, accommodation, conferences and events, housekeeping, and site operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership across domestic services, supporting the College’s objectives and driving continuous improvement.

  • Line manage five senior department heads across Catering, Food & Beverage, Housekeeping, Accommodation/Events and Lodge/Security.

  • Oversee catering operations, ensuring high standards of food, service, hygiene and customer experience.

  • Lead the conference, events and accommodation strategy, identifying opportunities to grow income and remain competitive.

  • Manage accommodation, food and beverage budgets, with responsibility for effective financial control and an annual accommodation, conference and events income target of £6m+.

  • Lead sustainability initiatives, particularly around food procurement, waste management and sustainable operations.

  • Oversee health and safety, compliance, security and operational standards across domestic services.

  • Lead strategic projects, contributing to major building and operational initiatives.

  • Monitor performance through KPIs, financial reporting, customer feedback and operational reviews.

  • Deputise for the Domestic Bursar when required and provide senior-level support in managing operational challenges and incidents.

About You

You will have:

  • Significant senior management experience within a multi-disciplinary service environment, ideally involving food and beverage operations.

  • Proven experience managing and developing senior managers and teams.

  • Strong commercial experience, including income generation, budget management, market analysis and strategic planning.

  • Experience developing marketing strategies, website content and social media activity.

  • Proven project management skills and the ability to produce clear, high-quality reports.

  • Strong knowledge of health and safety, food safety and relevant statutory compliance.

  • A strategic, collaborative and hands-on approach, with the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and respond to emergencies when required.
