We are seeking a skilled and collaborative Full Stack Engineer to join our team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys developing secure and scalable web applications, building APIs and cloud integrations, optimising software for large-scale research datasets, and working closely with researchers to deliver and support innovative data-driven solutions.
The position is set to commence asap and will be from 37.5 hours per week for 12 weeks (with a pay rate of £20.77 per hour + holiday pay).
Main Duties
- Coordinate, harmonise and support access to research data across several projects within the team.
- Develop and maintain intuitive web applications for visualising and sharing data and research results.
- Design and maintain secure, scalable full-stack architecture across front-end and back-end components.
- Develop RESTful APIs and integrate applications with cloud and research computing environments, including AWS and Google Cloud.
- Optimise application performance for large-scale omics datasets and apply appropriate authentication, authorisation and security practices.
- Deploy, monitor, troubleshoot and document software, working closely with researchers and providing training where required.
Selection Criteria:
- Relevant degree (e.g. Computer Science, Bioinformatics or Software Engineering), or equivalent substantial professional experience.
- Experience developing full-stack web applications using modern back-end and front-end frameworks (e.g. Django/Flask/FastAPI and React/Vue/Angular).
- Strong Python and JavaScript/TypeScript skills, including testing and software packaging.
- Experience developing and integrating RESTful APIs, using version control (Git/GitHub/GitLab), and applying CI/CD or other DevOps practices.
- Experience with cloud computing (AWS, Google Cloud or Azure) and deploying web applications; knowledge of secure authentication and web application security.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently, manage priorities and deliver to deadlines.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, particularly when working with researchers and multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience of supporting budgets and forecasts, with the ability to interpret financial data and investigate variances
- Experience gained in Higher Education or a research environment
- Experience of working with funders or sponsors and their financial reporting and audit requirementsity to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to produce a consistently high standard of work, with particular evidence of working accurately with attention to detail
- Experience of preparing or coordinating internal funding proposals, including X5 costings
- Experience of supporting budgets and forecasts, with the ability to interpret financial data and investigate variances
- Experience gained in Higher Education or a research environment
- Experience of working with funders or sponsors and their financial reporting and audit requirementsity to work independently and as part of a team.
