About the role

To apply for this role you must have:

  • Demonstrated success in implementing and monitoring network and data security measures

We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Head of IT to lead the strategic and operational management of the College’s information technology services. The successful candidate will ensure the reliability, security, and innovation of IT systems that support academic excellence, research, and administration.

The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £31.64 per hour + holiday pay

Key Duties:

1. IT Support

  • Provide day-to-day IT support to staff, students, academics, and visitors.
  • Oversee helpdesk operations, troubleshooting, and ensure the smooth running of all IT systems and services.

2. System and Network Management

  • Manage the College’s computer systems, servers, and network infrastructure to ensure security, efficiency, and maximum uptime.
  • Maintain and configure networking components including switches, wireless access points, VLANs, DNS, and DHCP.

3. Strategic Planning and Implementation

  • Lead the planning, delivery, and management of IT projects and system upgrades.
  • Ensure the College’s technology infrastructure remains current and scalable to meet future needs.

4. Collaboration with Other Departments

  • Work closely with academic and administrative teams to align IT services with institutional goals.
  • Translate departmental needs into effective technological solutions.

5. Flexibility and Crisis Management

  • Ensure IT resilience during peak academic periods such as exams and deadlines.
  • Provide rapid and effective responses to emergencies or unexpected system issues.

6. Security

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust cybersecurity measures to protect systems, networks, and sensitive data.
  • Oversee firewalls, encryption standards, and access controls in line with best practices.

Selection Criteria:

  • Degree or equivalent experience in Information Technology or a related field
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and solve complex technical and organisational challenges
  • Proven experience managing IT systems, servers, and networks in a professional environment
  • Demonstrated success in implementing and monitoring network and data security measures
  • Experience in IT procurement and vendor management
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and decision-making skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with the capacity to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users
