We are seeking an experienced and proactive Research Facilitator to support the strategic development and management of the department’s research activity. The role involves providing expert advice on research funding, strategy, compliance, and financial planning, while working closely with senior academic and administrative colleagues to enable high-quality research outcomes.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £20.77 per hour + holiday pay
Key Duties:
- Advise senior staff on research operations, including funding strategy, financial viability, risk management, and resource allocation
- Support the Director of Research and Research Strategy Group in shaping departmental research priorities and processes
- Identify and share external and internal funding opportunities, and keep staff informed of changes in funding policy and procedures
- Manage the department’s grant application workflow, liaising with Research Services and funders, and acting as departmental delegate on systems such as ResearchFish
- Review and provide feedback on research funding applications, particularly on accessibility and non-specialist summaries
- Liaise with external funders, collaborators, and stakeholders to negotiate research contracts and funding arrangements
- Coordinate demand management and internal selection processes for major funding calls, promoting collaboration across research areas
- Oversee ethics and post-award financial processes, and guide staff on workflows and data management systems
- Prepare, review, and approve research project budgets in X5, ensuring compliance with University and Full Economic Costing requirements
- Monitor and report on research income and performance for internal committees, reviews, and REF preparations
- Engage with divisional and University-wide research networks to share best practice and represent departmental interests
Selection Criteria:
- Experience in a similar research facilitation role within the University of Oxford or a comparable research-intensive institution
- Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience
- Strong communication, negotiation, and mediation skills, with the ability to build trust and influence at all levels
- Experience reviewing research funding bids and preparing budgets
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy
- Financial management experience, ideally within higher education
- Excellent IT and database management skills, including Excel and data reporting tools
- Ability to present complex information clearly and accessibly
- Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
