We are seeking a Temporary Fire Risk Assessor to join a centrally based Oxford University Department, commencing as soon as possible. This is a full-time, on-site role for an initial 12-week period, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to a world-class institution’s fire safety strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the rollout of a new Fire Risk Assessment regime across the University.
- Review and develop retrospective fire strategies for a diverse portfolio of buildings — from heritage properties and cutting-edge research facilities to postgraduate accommodation.
- Inspect existing fire precautions and recommend risk-based improvements to ensure effective means of escape and overall building fire performance.
- Ensure appropriate provisions and procedures are in place for the safe evacuation of all occupants, including those with reduced mobility.
- Collaborate with Estates, Safety Office, Project Teams, Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and other stakeholders on all fire safety matters.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of fire safety legislation and contribute to the University’s EveryDaySafe improvement programme.
Essential Criteria
- Level 4 Diploma in Fire Prevention (or equivalent), plus membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IFE, IFPO, IFSM).
- Strong knowledge of fire safety legislation and experience completing Fire Risk Assessments and reports.
- Recognised qualification in fire safety management (e.g. FPA, FIA, NEBOSH).
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and advise at all levels.
- Proactive and self-motivated, with strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
