We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused IT Technician to support IT systems, infrastructure, and users. The role involves hands-on technical work, day-to-day user support, and assisting with system maintenance across a varied and busy environment.
The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £16.92 per hour + holiday pay
Key Duties:
- Support and maintain Windows and Linux servers, desktops, and IT equipment
- Deploy and manage staff and Library computers, ensuring reliable performance
- Assist with network infrastructure maintenance and upgrades
- Design and apply policies to streamline PC deployment, enhance security, and improve user experience
- Provide frontline support to staff, students, academics, and visitors
- Manage anti-virus/security software and monitor system health
- Diagnose and repair faulty IT equipment
- Control and update user accounts, mailing lists, and access systems
- Perform administrative tasks on CCTV, Door Access Control, and EPOS systems
- Carry out annual or ad-hoc DSE assessments
- Manage the IT support inbox and triage or redirect tasks appropriately
- Provide cover for the IT Manager when required
- Offer support to other University units as agreed
Selection Criteria:
- Experience with Microsoft Windows in a networked environment
- Knowledge of security best practices, including anti-virus and anti-malware tools
- Understanding of TCP/IP and network communication technologies
- Working knowledge of Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and Windows OS
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload
- Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain management
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common software configuration
