About the role

To apply for this role you must have:

  • Knowledge of security best practices, including anti-virus and anti-malware tools.
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and network communication technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows in a networked environment.

We are looking for a skilled and customer-focused IT Technician to support IT systems, infrastructure, and users. The role involves hands-on technical work, day-to-day user support, and assisting with system maintenance across a varied and busy environment.

The position is set to commence ASAP and will be full-time for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £16.92 per hour + holiday pay

Key Duties:

  • Support and maintain Windows and Linux servers, desktops, and IT equipment
  • Deploy and manage staff and Library computers, ensuring reliable performance
  • Assist with network infrastructure maintenance and upgrades
  • Design and apply policies to streamline PC deployment, enhance security, and improve user experience
  • Provide frontline support to staff, students, academics, and visitors
  • Manage anti-virus/security software and monitor system health
  • Diagnose and repair faulty IT equipment
  • Control and update user accounts, mailing lists, and access systems
  • Perform administrative tasks on CCTV, Door Access Control, and EPOS systems
  • Carry out annual or ad-hoc DSE assessments
  • Manage the IT support inbox and triage or redirect tasks appropriately
  • Provide cover for the IT Manager when required
  • Offer support to other University units as agreed

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows in a networked environment
  • Knowledge of security best practices, including anti-virus and anti-malware tools
  • Understanding of TCP/IP and network communication technologies
  • Working knowledge of Linux, macOS, Android, iOS, and Windows OS
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, and domain management
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common software configuration
