We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented HR & Recruitment Officer to join our team in Oxford. This is an exciting opportunity to play a central role in delivering a high-quality, efficient HR service across the full employee lifecycle, with a particular focus on recruitment and onboarding.
About the Role
As HR & Recruitment Officer, you will manage end-to-end recruitment processes while providing comprehensive HR administrative support. You’ll work closely with hiring managers, applicants, and internal teams to ensure a smooth, professional, and compliant experience for all.
This is a varied role requiring excellent organisational skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Selection

Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, from advert creation through to appointment and onboarding

Draft and proofread job descriptions and adverts in line with policies

Liaise with managers to define staffing needs and funding requirements

Coordinate advertising through appropriate media channels

Organise interviews, including scheduling, panel coordination, and candidate communication

Support interview panels and provide guidance on recruitment procedures

Use PeopleXD to manage recruitment activity, generate correspondence, and prepare shortlisting packs
Pre-employment Processes

Conduct right to work and pre-employment checks

Prepare and issue offer letters and contracts

Support visa and immigration processes in collaboration with specialist teams

Ensure all compliance requirements (e.g. ID checks, occupational health, NHS documentation where applicable) are met

Maintain accurate and confidential employee records
Post-Appointment Support

Coordinate onboarding and induction processes

Monitor and record staff absence and leave

Support probation and performance review processes

Maintain up-to-date personnel files and HR systems
General HR Administration

Act as a first point of contact for HR queries via email, phone, and correspondence

Provide guidance on HR policies and procedures

Process payroll changes, timesheets, and casual worker payments

Support internal communications and HR-related content

Assist with projects, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives

Maintain compliance with data protection and information security standards

Support departmental initiatives such as Athena Swan Charter activities
Essential Criteria :

Experience working in HR within the University of Oxford environment

Hands-on experience using PeopleXD
-
Strong understanding of UK employment legislation, including right to work, equality, and data protection
