About the role

To apply for this role you must have:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety advisory role, ideally within a complex organisation.
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and fire safety legislation and best practice.

We are seeking an experienced Health & Safety Advisor to lead the review, development and implementation of health and safety arrangements across the organisation. This role will provide expert advice on health, safety and fire compliance, helping to embed a positive safety culture and robust management systems.

The position is set to commence ASAP and will be part-time 2-3 days per week for an initial duration of 12 weeks with a pay rate of £20.77 per hour + holiday pay

Key Duties:

Health & Safety Improvement

  • Review existing health and safety arrangements, identifying risks, gaps and opportunities for improvement
  • Develop, implement and monitor health and safety policies, procedures and action plans
  • Promote a positive safety culture and support managers in embedding safe working practices
  • Provide expert advice on risk assessments, accident investigations, contractor management, events and safe systems of work
  • Support departments in meeting health and safety obligations and maintaining compliance

Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain and improve health and safety management systems, records and documentation
  • Investigate incidents, near misses and accidents, including RIDDOR reporting where applicable
  • Develop and maintain risk registers and compliance monitoring processes
  • Prepare reports for committees and senior stakeholders
  • Support health and safety audits and reviews

Fire Safety

  • Support the maintenance and review of Fire Risk Assessments
  • Monitor implementation of fire safety actions and mitigation measures
  • Advise on fire safety compliance and emergency planning requirements

Training & Development

  • Identify health and safety training needs and coordinate training programmes
  • Maintain training records and monitor compliance
  • Support first aid provision and training requirements
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, guidance and best practice

Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in a Health & Safety advisory role, ideally within a complex organisation
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and fire safety legislation and best practice
  • Experience developing and improving policies, systems and procedures
  • Ability to work independently and manage change effectively
  • Pragmatic, solutions-focused approach with strong problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Experience conducting risk assessments and supporting compliance activities
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • NEBOSH qualification and/or IOSH membership desirable
